西洋朝顔
西洋朝顔へブンリーブルーを初めて植えたのは、もう１０年ぐらい前のことだろうか？
新聞か雑誌か何かでヘブンリーブルーのことを読んで種が欲しいと思った。その頃は今みたいなガーデニングブームが到来してなくて、珍しい花の種は通販ででもなければ取り寄せられなかったっけ。
毎年、何かしらの西洋朝顔を作っているが、今年はヘブンリーブルーとフライングソーサーの二種類を種まきした。鉢植えと畑の柵の二箇所に分けて植えたが、畑植えのものはカメムシにやられて今では全滅。このカメムシなぜか日本朝顔にはあまりつかないが西洋朝顔にはつくようだ。
鉢植えのものは大きめの鉢に２株植えてあって、今まではフライングソーサーだけがさいていた。つい１週間ほど前からへブンリーブルーの青い花が咲きだして、初めて、もう一株がヘブンリーブルーだったと気付いたという訳。
西日の当たらない場所なので夕方まで綺麗な青が楽しめる。
One afternoon, I was in the backyard hanging the laundry when an old, tired-looking dog wandered into the yard. I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home. But when I walked into the house, he followed me, sauntered down the hall and fell asleep in a corner. An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back. He resumed his position in the hallway and slept for an hour.
This continued for several weeks. Curious, I pinned a note to his collar: "Every afternoon your dog comes to my house for a nap. "
The next day he arrived with a different note pinned to his collar: "He lives in a home with ten children - he's trying to catch up on his sleep."
